Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a water repellent excellent in abrasion resistance and water repellency and a water-repellent glass formed by coating a glass with the water repellent.

CONSTITUTION: An alkoxysilane is reacted with a fluorosilane in the presence of a carboxylic acid or its anhydride to produce a water repellent for the surface of a glass. Thus, the fluorosilane is stably fixed into the matrix of the glass to impart an excellent water repellent and an excellent water-repellent glass.
