PURPOSE: To obtain the subject agent containing the aqueous resin dispersion of a copolymer comprising (meth)acrolein units and vinylic monomer units, improving the water resistance, hot water resistance, etc., of articles using a PVA polymer, not having toxicity, not containing a metal, and not causing environmental pollutions.
CONSTITUTION: Polymerizable monomer components giving (A) 10-80wt.%, preferably ≥30wt.%, of (meth)acrolein units (preferably acrolein units) and (B) 20-90wt.% of other vinylic monomer units [preferably methacrylic acid (ester) compound units, styrene (derivative) units)] are copolymerized with each other in an organic solvent, and the obtained copolymer solution is dispersed in an aqueous medium in the presence of a surfactant to obtain the objective improving agent.
