Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a water-resistant adhesive compsn. to join and reinforce optical fibres, which has strong adhesion to quartz glass, metal, etc., prepd. by blending a partially saponified ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer with an olefinic polymer.
CONSTITUTION: The adhesive compsn. is prepd. by blending (A) 20W80wt% partially saponified ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer (having a degree of saponification of about 40W90%) or product obtained by grafting an unsatd. carboxylic acid (anhydride) to the copolymer, with (B) 80W20wt% olefinic polymer (e.g. ethylene/propylene elastomer or ethylene/ethyl acrylate copolymer) or product obtained by gafting an unsatd. carboxylic acid (anhydride) to the polymer.
