To provide a water softener which has a simple configuration, can perform water softening and regeneration without using a chemical and without maintenance, prevents the stagnation of gas generated by electrolysis, and improves usability.
The water softener includes at least a pair of electrodes 20, a water decomposing ion exchanger 21 having a cation exchanger 22 and an anion exchanger 23, a passage 24 contacting with the surface of the water decomposing ion exchanger 21, an outer covering 19, and drain piping 25 for discharging concentrate, generated when the water decomposing ion exchanger 21 is regenerated by applying a voltage to the electrodes 20, to the outside of the outer covering 19. The drain piping 25 is provided in the upper part or in the side upper part of the outer covering 19, and when performing water softening treatment, a voltage of 0 V or more and less than a water decomposition voltage is applied to the electrodes.
