To provide a water softener with a backwashing operation function that can efficiently discharge waste and the like accumulated within an ion exchange resin cylinder upon use of the water softener.
The water softener has a backwashing operation function. The backwashing operation function is such that water is introduced into an ion exchange resin cylinder 2 packed with an ion exchange resin in a direction opposite to the direction of a water flow in soft water production by closing a water introduction valve 14 and opening a bypass valve 21. A thermistor 22 is provided for detecting the temperature of water introduced into the ion exchange resin cylinder 2. A control unit 6 sets the optimal flow rate of water introduced into the ion exchange resin cylinder 2 in the backwashing operation depending upon temperature detected by the thermistor 22 to allow a water collecting valve 17 to regulate the flow rate of water so that, in the backwashing operation, the flow rate of water introduced into the ion exchange resin cylinder 2 is the optimal water flow rate.
