The water softening apparatus comprises a resin tank 2 containing an ion exchange resin, a regeneration solution tank 7 storing a regeneration solution of the ion exchange resin and connected to the resin tank 2 through the resin tank 2 regeneration solution supply line 8, and a wastewater discharge line 20 for discharging the regenerated solution supplied to the resin tank 2 from the regeneration solution tank 7 as regeneration wastewater and is characterized in that the regeneration solution surface level in the regeneration solution tank 7 is not higher than the resin tank 2 and higher than the terminal part of the wastewater discharge line 20 and the regeneration solution is supplied to the resin tank 2 from the regeneration solution tank 7 and at the same time the regeneration solution is discharged to the wastewater discharge line 20 from the resin tank 2 by the water head pressure difference between the regeneration solution surface level in the regeneration solution tank 7 and the terminal part of the wastewater discharge line 20.
