PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble yellow pigment (compound) that is high in solubility in water and excellent in various fastness such as water resistance, moisture resistance, ozone gas resistance, abrasion resistance and light resistance of printed matter, especially excellent in color development (print density) and chroma, and a yellow ink composition for various recordings, especially inkjet recording, containing the same.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a water-soluble azo compound represented by formula (1) or salt thereof (Y is O or S; x is an integer of 2-4; n is an integer of 1-6; Ris H or an alkyl group; Ris H, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkylcarbonyl group, an arylcarbonyl group, an alkylsulfinyl group, an arylsulfinyl group, an alkylsulfonyl group or an arylsulfonyl group).SELECTED DRAWING: None
