PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble yellow pigment that has high solubility in water and is excellent in various fastness such as water resistance, moisture resistance, ozone gas resistance, abrasion resistance and light resistance, and particularly excellent in color development (pint density) and chroma, and a yellow ink composition for various recordings, especially inkjet recording, containing the same.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a water-soluble azo compound represented by general formula (1) or salt thereof (Y is O or S; Q is a halogen atom; x and z independently represent an integer of 2-4; n is an integer of 1-6; Ris H, a carboxy group, or the like; Ris H, a C1-C4 alkyl group, a C6-C20 aryl group, a C1-C4 alkylcarbonyl group, a C6-C20 arylcarbonyl group, a C1-C4 alkylsulfinyl group, a C6-C20 arylsulfinyl group, a C1-C4 alkylsulfonyl group or a C6-C20 arylsulfonyl group).SELECTED DRAWING: None
