PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble yellow pigment (compound) which has high solubility in water and excellent various fastness such as water resistance, moisture resistance, ozone gas resistance, abrasion resistance, and light resistance, especially ozone gas resistance; and a yellow ink composition containing the same for various recording, especially ink jet recording.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a water-soluble azo compound represented by the formula (1) or salt thereof (where Q is a halogen atom, x is an integer of 2 to 4, R is H or an optionally substituted alkyl group and Ar is a substituent of an optionally substituted ring structure).SELECTED DRAWING: None
