To provide a water-soluble complex coloring matter capable of forming an image having light fastness, ozone resistance and high chroma value, to provide a recording liquid, in particular an inkjet recording liquid, containing this, and to provide a recording method.
The water-soluble complex coloring matter is comprised of an azo compound, which is represented by general formula (1) and has at least one sulfo group in the molecule, or its tautomer, and of a transition metal ion, and the inkjet recording liquid contains the coloring matter, and the recording method uses the recording liquid. In the general formula (1), A1 represents a carbon aromatic ring, and the ring has a carboxylic group at a carbon atom adjacent to the carbon atom bonded to the azo group, wherein the ring may be further substituted by any substituent group, but when the substituent group has an aliphatic group in it, the aliphatic group does not have a tertiary or a secondary carbon; X1 represents a heteromonocyclic of 5-7 members or a condensed polycyclic containing this heterocyclic which may be substituted with an optional substituent; and R1 and R2 each independently represents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent substituent (including a tautomer ).
