Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble resin having a high molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution and reduced formation of a low- molecular-weight product.
SOLUTION: There is provided a water-soluble resin (A) which mainly consists of at least one vinyl monomer (a) being water-soluble or becoming water-soluble upon being hydrolyzed and satisfies requirements: (1) the content of a low-molecular-weight component with M×0.2 (wherein M is the molecular weight corresponding to the peak top on a chart obtained by measuring the molecular weight of A by a GPC method) and that of a high-molecular-weight component with M×2.0 are at most 2% and 5% (in terms of the area on the GPC chart), respectively or requirements (2): the stringing length/intrinsic viscosity ratio ≤4.
