Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a derivative compound which comprises a specified ionic tertiary sulfoalkyl (hydroxylalkyl) modified cellulose and, when added to gypsum or cement, can give a compound markedly improved in water retentivity, non- deflective properties, etc.

CONSTITUTION: There is provided an ionic tertiary sulfoalkyl (hydroxyalkyl) modified cellulose derivative having a degree of substitution (DS) with sulfoalkyls, especially sulfoethyls of 0.001-0.6, especially 0.01-0.5. This is added as an additive to gypsum- and/or cement-containing compounds. The average degree of the cellulose derivative is particularly desirably 100-2,500.
