To eliminate troubles, such as breakage of a tank, caused by volume expansion associated with freeze of water stored in a tank or water-based liquid, in a water storage tank.
The water storage tank includes: a water level detection device for detecting the height of a liquid level of the liquid stored in the tank; a drainage device for draining the liquid from the tank; and a water level adjusting device for controlling the drainage device to adjust the height of the liquid level of the liquid detected by the water level detection device. In addition, in a mechanism having a component which serves as a heat source for heating the water storage tank and the liquid, the water storage tank is used; the water level adjusting device adjusts the height of the liquid level of the liquid so that the height comes within a predetermined first water level range, when the component serving as the heat source stops generating heat; and a wall surface inside the tank has a shape where an angle at which a wall surface contacting with the liquid intersects with the liquid level of the liquid is an acute angle, on a portion corresponding to the first water level range.
