Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the economical and safe water-treating agent used for sterilizing the Legionella bacteria and exhibiting an excellent sterilization effect against the Legionella bacteria in a slight concentration by combining hydrazine with a certain kind of a water-soluble cationic polymer.

CONSTITUTION: The water-treating agent for the sterilization comprises hydrazine and a water-soluble cationic polymer as a synergist capable of maintaining the excellent characteristics of the hydrazine and of sterilizing the Legionella bacteria by the action of a small concentration. The eater-soluble cationic polymer contains the reaction product of a polyamine of formula I [R1-R4 are H, 1-3C alkyl; A is 1-5C alkylene; (n) is 1-5] with an epihalohydrin or dihalogenoethyl ether, especially a polymer of formula II or III [(n) is an integer of 4-40] which is the reaction product of N,N,N',N'-tetraethylenediamine with epichlorohydrin or dichloroethyl ether. The treating agent is especially most suitable for sterilizing cold water system containing the Legionella bacteria generated therein.
