To provide a water wheel driving type submerged pump in which in the case of using a vertical shaft arrangement method, if water exists in a water intake zone on an upstream side (upper side), malfunction can be avoided that air is mixed into a pump regardless of a water level in a downstream side discharge channel, stable pumping up can be executed, and piping working and maintenance working for a water feeding pipe can be facilitated.
In this water wheel driving type submerged pump, a vertical water wheel 3 having fixed runner vanes 1, 2 and a diagonal flow runner 2 and a vertical centrifugal pump 5 provided with a single stage impeller 4 are uniaxially connected to each other through a step-up gear 6 comprising a planetary gear mechanism, and the diagonal flow runner 2 is stored in a casing 7. The step-up gear 6 and pump 5 are arranged in the water intake zone 11 located upper than a suction opening 8.
