To obtain a waterborne adhesive, consisting essentially of a mixture of a vinyl acetate-based emulsion with an aqueous solution of a methyl vinyl ether-maleic anhydride copolymer and further containing an aqueous solution of a polyvalent metallic salt, having a low film-forming temperature and improved in initial adhesive strength.
This waterborne adhesive is a two-pack separate coating type one of a liquid A comprising a modified vinyl acetate-based emulsion prepared by adding an aqueous solution of a methyl vinyl ether-maleic anhydride copolymer to a vinyl acetate-based emulsion or a copolymer emulsion of vinyl acetate and other monomers and a liquid B comprising an aqueous solution of a polyvalent metallic salt reactive with carboxyl groups (e.g. zirconium carbonate).
