Abstract:

To provide a waveguide element assembly capable of aligning accurately and simply between an optical fiber and a waveguide element or between a light receiving/emitting element and a waveguide.

A projection 14 for positioning a waveguide element is fitted into a waveguide element holding substrate 23 and engaged therewith. As a result, the waveguide element and the waveguide element holding substrate are three-dimensionally positioned, with a relative angle also determined. Then, a pin 33 for positioning an optical connector is fitted into the pin hole 24 of the waveguide element holding substrate, thereby making this holding substrate and the optical connector two-dimensionally positioned. Consequently, the waveguide element and the optical connector are also two-dimensionally positioned, with the relative angle determined. Thereafter, by catching a hook 25 of the waveguide element holding substrate on the projection 35 of the optical connector, the surface of the positioning projection 15 of the waveguide element comes in contact with the surface of the positioning projection 34 of the optical connector; thus, a space between the waveguide element and the optical connector is determined.
