The waveguide type optical deflector 1 is provided with a slab waveguide 11 to/from which an optical signal is inputted and outputted, an array waveguide 12 connected optically to one end face of the waveguide 11, and a reflection switch network 13 which has a plurality of reflection switch strings 13A to 13D having a switch element capable of controlling the reflection and transmission of light arranged on the respective optical paths of the waveguide 12 and varies the respective light path lengths of the waveguide 12 by controlling the operation of the strings 13A to 13D.
