Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make elliptic characteristic-mode projection light from an output waveguide nearly circular by providing elliptic microlenses which two different lens radii corresponding to the elliptic characteristic modes of the waveguides of the waveguide type optical device in the waveguides. CONSTITUTION:The output waveguides 15 and 16 have a flat plate microlens plate 30 adhered and fixed to the parallel waveguide of an output end part with an optical adhesive, and the lens array consisting of the 1st and 2nd elliptic microlenses 31 and 32 is formed. Consequently, the elliptic characteristic-mode projection light from the output waveguide of the optical waveguide optical device consisting of the waveguides 15 and 16 formed in a substrate 10 is converted and made nearly circular at a certain position.
