Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain high efficiency by forming a channel light guide, nonlinear optical material and plane wavelength respectively along the side wall provided in the direction nearly orthogonal with the Z axis on an X plate or Y plate lithium niobate crystal plane. CONSTITUTION:The channel light guide 3 on the lithium niobate crystal 1 plane, the nonlinear optical material 5 provided on the surface thereof and the plane wavelength 4 adjacently on the same crystal plane are provided along the side wall provided in the direction nearly orthogonal with the Z axis on the X plate or Y plate lithium niobate crystal plane. Since the side wall 2 is provided in this way, the efficient conversion to one direction is possible and since the org. high polymer (MNA single crystal film) 5 having the nonlinear optical constant as large as several tens times the nonlinear org. constant of an LiNbO3 crystal is provided on the channel waveguide 3, the degradation in the nonlinear conversion efficiency of the channel wavelength 3 is compensated by this org. high polymer 5. The stable waveguide type wavelength conversion element having the high efficiency is obtd. in this way.
