Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveguide optical memory device capable of performing writing and reading by only light without optical-electrical conversion, and reducing power.SOLUTION: The waveguide optical memory device comprises: optical waveguides (2, 3, 4) formed of a silicon layer with a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) structure; and a storage area (5) formed of at least a magneto-optical layer (52) on a part of the optical waveguide. The storage area (5) is heated by absorbing input light, heats the magneto-optical layer (52) higher than Curie temperature, and performs Curie temperature magnetic recording.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
