PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength conversion apparatus with improved light utilization efficiency.SOLUTION: A wavelength conversion apparatus 27 includes: a phosphor layer 34 having a first surface 34a and a second surface 34b facing the first surface 34a; a polarization separation film 39 formed of a dielectric multilayer and arranged on the side of the first surface 34a of the phosphor layer 34; a reflection member 37 arranged on the side of a second surface 34b of the phosphor layer 34, to reflect light generated in the phosphor layer 34; and a light scattering section (irregular structure 43) for scattering the light generated in the phosphor layer 34 and reflected in the polarization separation film 39.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
