Title:
WAVELENGTH CONVERSION DEVICE AND LIGHT TRANSMISSION SYSTEM USING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3663083
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce intensity of an optical signal light by reflecting the input signal light of a 2nd multiplexed light composed of the input signal light and the modulated light of another wavelength and re-inputting the reflected input signal light to an optical amplification means.
SOLUTION: This wavelength conversion device comprises an optical coupler 106 for multiplexing modulated wavelength light 101 and CW converted wavelength input light 104, a semiconductor optical amplifier (or an optical fiber amplifier) 108, an optical fiber grating 112 reflecting converted wavelength light 110 and transmitting wavelength converted output light 111, and optical fiber 109 for an output. Since this device is used for returning only the converted wavelength light 110 and the converted wavelength light 110 is used twice in the semiconductor optical amplifier 108, the optical intensity required for the converted wavelength light 110 can be reduced by 3 dB in an ideal case. Moreover, the converted wavelength light 110 can be prevented from being outputted to the output optical fiber 109. Further, it is also possible to provide the optical fiber grating 112 with a function for controlling a reflected wavelength.
