To provide a wavelength package generator which is capable of generating wavelength packets of high wavelength stability by simple control and to provide a wavelength packet communication network using this wavelength packet generator.
This wavelength packet generator is equipped with a light pulse modulating means for converting the continuous light inputted from outside to light pulses, an optical frequency shifter for imparting a prescribed frequency shift to propagated light of an optical path on the optical path, an optical ring resonator arranged with an optical amplifier, optical switch, means for removing spontaneously emitted optical noise generated in the optical amplifier and optical delay line, light input means for inputting the light pulses outputted from the light pulse modulating means to the optical ring resonator, synchronous control means for synchronously controlling the modulation signal to the light pulse modulating means and the switching signal to the optical switch and light output means for fetching the light pulses (wavelength packet) subjected to frequency sweeping by going around the optical ring resonator to the outside. The generator has the optical modulating means for modulating the light pulses (wavelength packet) outputted from the light output means of the optical frequency sweeper by a transmission signal.
