PURPOSE: To obtain a compound having the effect of suppressing wax deposition from a petroleum middle distillate fuel oil at low temperatures by reacting an amine with an amide prepared by reacting an α-olefin/maleic anhydride copolymer with a dialkylamine.
CONSTITUTION: The objective agent comprises a compound prepared by reacting R3-NH2 (wherein R3 is a 2-8C aliphatic hydrocarbon group) or an alkali metal with an amide prepared by reacting a copolymer of an average molecular weight of 1000-10000, prepared by copolymerizing a 12-24C α-olefin or an inner monoolefin with maleic anhydride, with R1-NH-R2 (wherein R1 and R2 are each a 1-24C aliphatic hydrocarbon group). When this agent entirely consists of the above compound, it is very effective in suppressing the wax deposition at the deposition initiation temperature or near, but the extent of suppression of wax deposition decreases with a falling temperature. However, when it comprises a mixture of this compound with EVA of a vinyl acetate content of 10-40wt.%, it can persist its effect even at lower temperatures owing to the synergistic effect.
