To provide a long-life wear-resistant member having excellent wear-resistance, which restrains components of a base body from diffusing into its coating layer formed by a chemical vapor deposition method (CVD) to reduce the strength of the coating layer.
The wear-resistant member comprises a base body and a coating layer formed on the base body. The base body contains a hard phase having, in major proportions, at least one of tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, titanium nitride, and titanium carbonitride and a binding phase containing at least one of Co and Ni. The coating layer is formed in contact with the base body and equipped with a first layer containing at least 25 atomic percentage of Al element and a second layer formed on the first layer by a chemical vapor deposition method.
