To reduce the piston ring attachability of the subject ring by composing it of a ferrous sintered alloy contg. a specified amt. of Al, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities.
This piston ring wear resistant ring is composed of a ferrous sintered alloy contg. 7 to 28 wt.% Al. Since the true density of the ferrous sinetred alloy itself is the small one of 4.9 to 7.0 Mg/m3, by allowing pores to remain the density of the piston ring wear resistant ring can be lightened to 3.0 to 6.5 Mg/m3. The Al component improves its heat radiability, improves the high temp. wear resistance of the piston ring wear reinstance ring contributes to the improvement of the adhesion with a piston ring casting body composed of an Al-Si alloy, moreover lightens the piston ring wear resistant ring and lightens the piston body. This piston ring wear resistant ring is produced by mixing reduced Fe powder with Fe-Al alloy powder, thereafter making the powdery mixture into a green compact by a press, heating the green compact at about 1100 to 1300°C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere and holding the same for a prescribed time.
