PURPOSE: To improve driving force between a roller surface and a web by forming about hemispherical mutually overlaped projections on the surface of a roller to carry a continuously running web for discharging air from a space between the roller surface and the continuously running web.
CONSTITUTION: First a nickel layer 5 is pated on a cylindrical base body 4 to improve anticorrosion. Next the surface of the nickel layer 5 is sandblasted by powder emery to form a crystal irregular face having a sharp irregular part. A chrome layer 6 is then electroplated on the surface of the sandblasted nickel layer 5. When the chrome layer 6 is electroplated, the surface forms almost hemispherical projections 7, and is provided with the anticorrosion and hardening effect. A contact between the roller surface 3 and a web 2 is contact between the apexes of innumerable hemispherical projections 7 and the web 2, and in the case where its noncontact area attains at least 50% of the whole area, the roller surface 3 can obtain excellent permeability and driving force, and the dynamic discharge of air is easy.
