To provide a retaining device surely retaining a web paper to prevent movement of the web paper during a rotary press stops.
A web paper retaining device 1 for a rotary press forms a channel for web paper W supplied from a paper supply part to a folding part via a printing part. A rotary press provided with a roller winding web paper on an outer circumference surface thereof is composed of a stopping means 9 provided with corresponding to at least one roller 40 and stopping the roller when the rotary press stops and enabling the roller to rotate when the rotary press operates and a paper holding means 5 provided with corresponding to the roller having the stopping means 9 provided and capable of approaching and separating from the roller and applying pressing force on the roller. The stopping means is provided with a hydraulic pressure actuation or electromagnetic force actuation braking part 93 provided on an end part side of the roller and a control part 96 controlling operation of the braking part 93.
