PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a working load in case of executing butt welding for a pipe.
SOLUTION: A backing member 31 which is used in case that a pipe-like flange 21 of a pillar 20 is butt welded to a pipe-like beam 22 is formed into a pipe shape, a first spring supporting member 32 is fixed to one end surface of the backing member 31, one end of a coil spring 33 is fixed to the outside of the first spring supporting member 32 and also a second spring supporting member 34 is attached to the other end of the coil spring 33 to compose a backing 30, which is inserted into the end part of the beam 22. When the coil spring 33 is in a return state, the second spring supporting member 34 is welded to the inside of the beam 22 and fixed to it in a position where a part of the backing member 31 protrudes out of the end of the beam 22 outside. The backing member 31 is restricted with a wire 40 in a state in which it is pushed into the end part of the beam 22, the flange 21 of the pillar 20 is butted against the beam 22 at a construction site, restriction of backing member 31 is released by cutting the wire 40, a part of the backing member 31 is inserted into the end part of the flange 21, and butt welding is executed in this state.
