To provide a laser welding robot and a method for adjusting a gap of the same capable of controlling so that a gap between a welding head and a workpiece becomes an appropriate distance with a simple constitution.
A welding portion on a workpiece W is imaged by a CCD camera 13, and the focal distance or the focal position of the CCD camera 13 is changed. Also, an upper limit position and a lower limit position are found when the focal point is off by a fixed value or greater, and an intermediate point between them is found. Further, the position of a welding head 5 is adjusted so that the focal point comes to this intermediate point. Also, because the focal distance of the CCD camera 13 and the focal distance of the welding head 5 are set so as to be same to each other, by adjusting the welding head 5 to the position, the focal point in welding can be adjusted to a desired portion of the workpiece W with high accuracy.
