PURPOSE: To obtain a paper-form wet friction material which is used for a clutch and a brake in a wet friction coupling device, reduces the working shock, and improves the torque capacity by dispersing a specific substance in the friction material.

CONSTITUTION: A heat-resistant elastic substance based on a synthetic rubber (e.g. a silicone rubber or a fluororubber) is dispersed in a paper-form wet friction material comprising a fibrous material (e.g. natural pulp fibers or synthetic org. fibers), a filler (e.g. diatomaceous earth), a friction modifier (e.g. a cashew resin), and a thermosetting resin. The substance is dispersed in the form of particles, fibers, or a suitable mixture of particles with fibers, pref. in the form of fibers to maintain porosity, a parameter of heat resistance of the friction material, and to ensure effective dispersion.
