Title:
WHEEL ALIGNMENT SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH05262260
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve angle sensing accuracy by having a system function control means for receiving alignment angle data and an angle sensing means mounted on vehicle support wheels.

CONSTITUTION: Inclinometers 11, 12 provide vertical reference for certain wheel alignment measurements. Toe measurement is taken in a plane 16. The substantially square wave which exists from time t9 to time t10 results from the most directly impinging light beam on receiver and therefore, taken with the signals resulting from light beams received adjacent in time (signals V1, V2, V4), is indicative of the angle of the plane of the wheel on which the light projector is mounted relative to a predetermined reference direction. The adjustment of the wheels 61 and 62 may be done by measuring the total toe between the wheels 61 and 62 and bisecting the total toe to obtain the wheel rolling direction track which forms the angle.alpha. with the geometric centerline 65.
