Abstract:

To provide a method of measuring clearances in a bearing device for a wheel capable of controlling the clearances by measuring a rotating torque and elastic displacement amount of a bearing which are correlated with a preload amount.

In this method of measuring the clearances in the bearing device for the wheel having an inward member 1 plastically connected integrally with each other, the rotating torque P is provided by applying an axial clearance δ1 actually measured before the inward member 1 is plastically connected to a preset relational expression of rotating torque and elastic displacement amount. The incremental amount ▵P (▵P=P2-P1) of the rotating toque obtained from the rotating torque P1 and P2 actually measured before or after the plastic connection of the inward member 1 is added to the rotating torque P, and a rotating toque P3 (P3=P+ΔP) is applied to the relational expression of the rotating toque and the elastic deformation amount to provide an axial clearance. Thus, torque fluctuating factors such as the agitation resistance of a lubricating grease sealed in the bearing and the interferences of seals can be excluded.
