To provide a wheel bearing device assembled with combined components having known finished dimensions for securing a proper bearing clearance range.
The wheel bearing device comprises inward members 2, 3 and an outward member 1 having opposed double-row raceway surfaces 2a, 1a; 2a', 1a', respectively, and balls 10 arranged between the opposed raceway surfaces 2a, 1a; 2a', 1a'. In its manufacturing method, the outer diameter sizes of the raceway surfaces 2a, 2a' formed on the inward members 2, 3 and the inner diameter sizes of the raceway surfaces 1a, 1a' formed on the outward member 1 are measured, and combined members selected from the measured inward members 2, 3 and outward member 1 are assembled so that distances between the opposed raceway surfaces 2a, 1a; 2a', 1a' are each a predetermined range in the assembled condition. The combined components having the known finished dimensions secure a proper bearing clearance space. A diameter r0 of the ball 10 to be used is selected to more easily secure the bearing clearance range.
