To provide a wheel drive unit for a railway vehicle which reduces a torque loss and also improves lubrication property.
The wheel drive unit 12 for the railway vehicle is a drive unit for rotating to drive a wheel 11 of the railway vehicle. Specifically, the wheel drive unit 12 comprises a reduction gear housing 13 held on the internal diameter surface of the wheel 11 and integrally rotated with the wheel 11, an input side rotary member 14 connected to a drive source, a reduction mechanism 15 for reducing rotation of the input side rotary member 14 to transmit it to the reduction gear housing 13, a fixing member 23 disposed inside the reduction gear housing 13 and fixed with connection to a railway vehicle main body, axle bearings 24 and 25 for supporting the reduction gear housing 13 to the fixing member 23 so as to be freely rotated, and lubricating oil circulation mechanisms 32 and 33 for circulating lubricating oil between the reduction mechanism and the axle bearings 24 and 25.
