Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the title composite ceramics having high hardness, strength and toughness and useful for a wear resistant member, a structural member, etc., by reinforcing ceramics with thick whiskers having a specified shape and thin whiskers having a specified shape.
CONSTITUTION: Ceramics such as silicon nitride is reinforced with thick whiskers having 0.6-1.2μm diameter and 5-30μm length, e.g. silicon carbide whiskers and thin whiskers having 0.2-0.8μm diameter and ≤30μm length.
