PURPOSE: To obtain the whisker reinforced composite metal having high strength, good workability and excellent mechanical properties by compounding specific ratios of silicon carbide whiskers and zinc oxide whiskers with a metal.
CONSTITUTION: The silicon carbide whiskers and zinc oxide whiskers are compounded with the metal. The compounding ratios thereof are 1 to 25vol.% silicon carbide whisker and 4 to 49% zinc oxide whiskers and the sum of both is 5 to 50%. The above-mentioned zinc oxide whiskers have 3 to 200μm length from the base part to the front end and ≥3 aspect ratio and preferably contain the whiskers consisting of nuclear parts and acicular crystal parts extending in different plural axial directions and more particularly tetraaxial directions from these nuclear parts. Aluminum or its alloy is adequately used as the above- mentioned metal.
