To provide a photographic lens system which has a proper back-focal distance and has less distortion and is comprised of two lenses in two groups.

The lens system comprises a front group G1 consisting of one lens which has negative refracting power and has at least one aspherical surface and a rear group G2 consisting of one lens which has a positive refracting power and has at least one aspherical surface. The lens system is provided with an aperture stop S between the front group G1 and the rear group G2 and satisfies conditions 0.7<f/Bf<0/9, 1.5<f1/f2<2.0, 1.0<f1/f<2.0, and 0.6<f2/f<0.9 wherein f, Bf, f1, and f2 are the focal length of the entire wide angle photographic lens system, the back focal distance of the entire wide angle photographic lens system, the focal length of the front group G1, and the focal length of the rear group G2 respectively.
