To highly accurately estimate a width reduction load in a width reduction press device in a hot rolling line.SOLUTION: A width reduction load estimation method for use in a width reduction press device, in a hot rolling line including a heating furnace and the width reduction press device, includes an estimation step of estimating a width reduction load in the width reduction press device, by using a width reduction load estimation model learned by mechanical learning that includes, as input data, at least one parameter selected from attribute information of a slab, at least one parameter selected from operating parameters in the heating furnace, and at least one parameter selected from width reduction operation parameters in the width reduction press device and uses, as output data, a width reduction load in the width reduction press device.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
