To provide a winding mechanism capable of reliably controlling the retraction and deployment of an architectural shield, such as a window blind or shade.
A hydraulic brake 40 capable of delaying a rotation of at least in one direction of a first axis for a winding element is provided. The hydraulic brake 40 is provided with a liquid tight partitioned room 42 housing liquid and flexible impellers 46. The partition room and impellers 46 are capable of making a relative rotation around the first axis and a second axis as same as the first axis. If the liquid is rotated at least in the first direction about the second axis of rotation relatively to the impeller 46 or the partitioned space 42, then the rotation of the winding element at least in the second direction about the first axis can be delayed. The impellers 46 or inner peripheral wall surfaces inside the partitioned space 42 have first surfaces extended almost in a radial direction relative to the axis of the second axis and also substantially in parallel to the second axis.
