PURPOSE: To reduce the window dimension by minimizing the cutting of main information by allocating a window space to be newly set according to a specification showing the relative position, priority and minimum dimension of each area when changing the dimension of a window composed of plural areas.
CONSTITUTION: The window having a partial cluster 8 composed of blocks 4, 5 and 6 is displayed by application programs 1, 2 and 3. In order to change this window dimension, the minimum dimension of two mutually orthogonal methods is designated by an application having data to be displayed in the area to which an area control parameter for designating the minimum dimension is applied. First of all, it is determined whether the synthetic minimum dimension of various areas to be displayed in one window exceeds a total window dimension or not. When the block enough for including the minimum designated block in the window to be displayed exists in the window, the area of the minimum dimension specification is allocated to that area according to the indicator and priority of its relative position inside the window.
