PURPOSE: To provide a wiper device that can automatically put a rear wiper in action at the necessary time such as the time of rainfall with simple constitution.
CONSTITUTION: A light emitting part 7 and a light receiving part 8 are opposedly disposed at both ends of a rear window 3 so as not to come in contact with a rear wiper 5, and belt-like light beams γ are intermittently emitted from the light emitting part 7 toward the light receiving part 8 so as to form a raindrop detecting sensor 9 between the light emitting part 7 and the light receiving part 8. When a front wiper switch is turned on, the raindrop detecting sensor 9 is turned on, and when the number of raindrops and the amount of rainfall over the fixed amount are detected by the raindrop detecting sensor 9, the rear wiper is put in operation. The front and rear wipers can thereby be operated by one switch, and the rear view at the time of rainfall can be always secured without worrying about forgetting to switch on the rear wiper. Since the raindrop detecting sensor 9 works only during the action of the front wiper, the rear wiper is put in operation only at the necessary time such as the time of rainfall.
