To prevent breaking of a wire rod at drawing by using a wire drawing machine capable of removing metal powder and a lubricant in an operating state and cleaning a capstan.
In the wire drawing machine 1 which is provided with a die to draw a wire rod 7, a first capstan 9 to feed a wire rod 7 to the die while tightening it on a tightening face of its outer periphery and a second capstan 11 to tighten the wire rod 7 drawn by the die on a tightening face of its outer periphery and again to return the wire rod to the first capstan 9, a cleaning means 15 is arranged to bring into contact with tightening faces of the first capstan 9 and the second capstan 11 where the wire rod 7 is not tightened. A light supply pipe to supply a cleaning liquid is connected to the cleaning means 15. A scraping means 19, which is positioned on an upstream side of the cleaning means 15 in a capstan rotating direction and scraps the metal powder/lubricant stuck to the tightening faces, is arranged to bring into contact with the coiling faces.
