To provide a wire manufacturing method capable of providing a wire which is excellent in lubricity in the secondary working and hardly generates scales in the secondary working.

A wire-like base material obtained through hot rolling in a rolling device 2 is wound by a laying device 4. Scales on the surface of the base material are removed in a hydrochloric acid tank 6. The base material is subjected to the low-temperature annealing in an annealing furnace 8. A phosphate film is deposited on the surface of the base material in a chemical conversion treatment tank 10. Deposition of the phosphate film is ≥ 3.0 g/m2 and ≤ 9.0 g/m2. A lime soap film is further deposited on the surface of the base material in a lime soap tank 12. The base material is drawn by a wire drawing machine 14. Reduction of the wire drawing is ≥ 10% and ≤ 20%.
