Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent the secondary breakdown of a pipe due to the pipe whip which is generated when the piping system of a generator plant is broken, by arranging several pieces of wires around the piping system. CONSTITUTION:When a pipe 1 is broken midway on the piping system, pipe whip is generated. The pipe having been swung around contacts with the wire 2 fixed on a construction 6 and pulls the wire 2 to the yielding point and contacts with the wire 3, consuming impact energy. Through the repetition of the above actions, impact energy is consumed till the arrival at the wire 4, and pipe whip is ceased by the last wire 5. Thus, owing to the usage of several pieces of wires, the load applied to a construction or structure due to impact can be reduced, and the secondary breakdown of the pipe can be prevented.
