PURPOSE: To smoothly take out a wire from a wire wound reel, by surrounding the outer periphery of the reel with a cylindrical cover of a specified dimentions.

CONSTITUTION: The outer periphery of a wire wound reel 1 having a barrel part 3 provided with flange parts 4, 5 at its both side ends is surrounded with an equidiametrically cylindrical cover 6 having a diameter slightly larger than that of both flange parts 4, 5 so that a gap 7 is formed. The longitudinal height H1 of the cover 1 is higher than the longitudinal height H2 of the reel 1, and is set in such a range that a wire 2 will not spring out from the cover 1 due to spring back which is generated when the wire 2 is taken out from the wire wounded reel 1, and therefore, will not be, for example, tangled. Further, a damage preventing band 9 is attached to the flange part 4 in order to make the take-out of the wire 2 smooth. With this arrangement, the wire may be taken out to the upper opened area 8.
