This washing apparatus for washing wires 50 furnished on a paper machine comprises means 49 and 51 each for spouting washing water against the wires 50, a washing water retention unit 73 for retaining spouted washing water closely to the wires 50 followed by feeding the water to the wires 50, and a means 55 disposed downstream in the traveling direction of the wires 50 in the washing water retention unit 73 and intended for spouting pressurized air against the wires 50 to remove the stains on the wires 50 together with washing water.
