PURPOSE: To provide the wire winding device of a winding machine which can wind and unwind wire by utilizing drive force of the winding machine and is formed into small size and simple construction.

CONSTITUTION: The hand-operated handle shaft 5a of a winding machine 5 is used as a driving shaft, it is provided with a driving sprocket 13 through a one-way clutch 12 by which driving force can be transmitted during winding, a winding shaft 16 to wind a wire 3 is provided with a torque keeper 18 to which a driven sprocket 19 is fitted, and an idle sprocket 22 engaged with an endless chain 23 which is laid around these sprocket 13, 19 is supported through a one-way clutch 21 which is locked during unwinding. Hereby, in case of winding the wire 3, it can be wound always faster than the winding speed of the winding shaft 16 and the wire 3 can be unwound without slackness in case of unwinding and forced winding and unwinding of the wire can be performed with a compact device, without providing any other drive power source in particular.
