To provide a wireless apparatus which practically detects a crowded channel even when used in an ad-hoc network.
Each wireless apparatus 31 to 43 holds a table indicating a relation between a failure probability P that a wireless apparatus around itself fails in packet transmission to itself and the number N of wireless apparatuses simultaneously accessing to itself. The wireless apparatus 36 detects a time interval between occurrences of packet loss when receiving a Hello packet periodically transmitted from a wireless apparatus around itself at a channel Chj, and calculates the failure probability that a wireless apparatus around itself fails in packet transmission to itself based on the detected time interval, and detects the number N of a wireless apparatus corresponding to the calculated failure probability with reference to the table. The wireless apparatus 36 determines that the channel Chj is a crowded channel when the detected number N of a wireless apparatus is more than a reference value.
